The Era of Ownership: How Noblocks is Upgrading Your Wallet (EIP-7702)
For too long, the crypto user experience has been a trade-off: you either chose the simplicity of a standard wallet (EOA) or the power of a Smart Contract account. At Noblocks, we believe you shouldn’t have to choose.
Today, we are thrilled to announce a milestone in our journey toward true financial ownership. Noblocks has migrated to EIP-7702; a revolutionary Ethereum standard that fundamentally changes how you interact with your digital assets. This means you'll have a new wallet address after you migrate.
Here is everything you need to know about why we made this move and how it benefits you.
What is EIP-7702?
EIP‑7702 is part of Ethereum’s broader evolution toward smarter, more flexible wallets. It enables Externally Owned Accounts (EOAs) to temporarily adopt smart‑contract-like behavior, without permanently becoming contracts.
Think of your current wallet like a standard bank card, it can send and receive, but it’s limited. EIP-7702 essentially turns your wallet into a "Smart Wallet" on demand. It allows your account to temporarily "borrow" the intelligence of a smart contract.
It gives you the high-tech features of advanced blockchain accounts while keeping the same wallet address and ease of use you already love. It’s like upgrading your car’s engine to a jet turbine without having to buy a new car. Before this migration, Noblocks operated on an EIP-4337 smart wallet architecture.
This model enabled advanced functionality like gas abstraction and smoother onboarding. With the EIP-4337 smart wallet architecture, when users exported their wallet, what they received was the underlying EOA private key, not the smart wallet contract address where their funds were visible. What has changed is not who owns the funds, but how clearly that ownership shows up when you use other wallets and tools.
As a result, when users imported their noblocks wallet into non-custodial wallets like MetaMask, they couldn’t see their Noblocks smart wallet balance. The funds were still there and still owned by them, but they were tied to the smart wallet contract, not directly visible from the exported EOA address. This created confusion and reduced portability, even though ownership technically existed.
Why This Matters: 4 Key Benefits
With the move to EIP-7702, we’ve redesigned this experience for clarity and portability. Instead of having a permanently separate smart wallet contract as your visible account, your EOA becomes your primary, visible address (the same address you can import into wallets like MetaMask and immediately see your balance). You now get the following:
1. Total User Control Over Funds
Historically, infrastructure limitations sometimes felt like a "middleman" was standing between you and your balance. With EIP-7702, that barrier is gone. This upgrade moves the control logic directly to your account. You are the sole gatekeeper of your funds on Noblocks.
2. Universal Token Withdrawal
Have you ever transferred a token to your wallet only to find it "stuck" because the system didn't support that specific asset's withdrawal path? EIP-7702 solves this. If it’s in your wallet and the network supports it, you can withdraw it, without waiting on a custom integration from us. This works by allowing your regular wallet address to temporarily act like a smart wallet for things like gasless transactions and withdrawals, then switch back to a normal wallet automatically.
3. No More "Missing" Transactions
One of the biggest pain points in Web3 is the "invisible" transaction, money that was sent but doesn't show up in your dashboard. Our new infrastructure eliminates the synchronization issues that caused these headaches. By moving to EIP-7702, we’ve streamlined how the blockchain talks to our interface, ensuring your balance is always accurate and visible
4. Private Key Export (True Ownership)
We believe in the "Not your keys, not your crypto" ethos. As part of this migration, users will now be able to export their private keys. This means you can take your Noblocks assets and access them through any other compatible wallet (like MetaMask or Trust Wallet) at any time using the same address as the one on your Noblocks wallet.
You are never "locked in" to our platform. However, it is important to note that exporting your private key means anyone with that key can move your funds. Store it securely and never share it.
A Seamless, "One-Click" Migration
We know "migration" can sound scary, so we’ve made it as simple as possible. You won't need to move funds manually or create a new account.
For users with a wallet balance
1. Login to Noblocks
2. Click on "Start Migration" from the pop up banner
3. Read the popup modal that explains the upgrade
4. Click on "Approve Transfer" to see Total wallet balance being transferred
5. Confirm wallet balance and Approve Transfer
For users without a balance (Wallet balance=0)
1. Login to Noblocks
2. Click on "Start Migration" from the pop up banner
3. Read the popup Modal that explains the upgrade
4. Click on I understand
To ensure the security and stability of our network, all users must complete this migration to continue transacting. You can migrate any time, but after February 28th you won’t be able to send out funds until you’ve upgraded. After this date, the old infrastructure will be sunsetted to make way for the more secure, EIP-7702-powered future.
However, existing funds are safe and will remain accessible via migration. This move to EIP-7702 isn't just a technical update, it’s a commitment. It’s about giving you the tools to be your own bank, with the safety net of a platform that just works.
